We had some planned server down time today. It was planned on very short notice though so I didn’t bother posting this before the downtime.
Anyways, It was mainly due to me wanting to bring the server in to school. At which point Huw decided it needed to be de-biscuitised (cleaned). So now that the server is back up and clean, it should make no difference what so ever. Enjoy.
After a lengthy court case (sort of), Part 2 of The Alien Film is now back on Youtube!
The music has been changed because of the copyright issue so hopefully it won’t get taken down again (fingers crossed).
If you manage to get to the end of the film (without laughing at the acting so much that you choke on your own tongue and die), you’ll also notice the ultra-new-high-tech-Google-Earth-enhanced ending which took HOURS to make so you’d better bloody like it.
Okk… Part 2 has now been taken off due to another copyright claim… And they didn’t even email me about it….
We don’t think we’ll be able to get this one put back up… the ‘fair use’ claim won’t be as strong (I think we got away with the last one being a parody…), so Huw’s said he’ll change the music. And probably a couple of other things he’s annoyed with. We’ll lose our view count for it but that was a bit rubbish compared to part 1 anyway, and now we’ll have an excuse for it to be.
It should be back in one form or another soon anyway. Of course none of this would matter if everyone just watched the vimeo one.
Newwws!! Well, part 1 has made it to 3000 views…just.
It almost didn’t make it – a while back I got this:
After we’d all stopped panicking I filled in the form it gives you to “dispute this claim” and er…. they put it back up again. Which was nice. It also means that we can appearently now use anything copyrighted in our films ad claim it as ‘fair use’. Which is also nice.
And it also proves that there is something watching it to the point of the montage at least. Even if it was just a bot. Oh well.
Being less pessimistic part 2 now has over 1000 views, so if we hired a marketing person we could say that 1 in 3 people watch the whole film. And they all love it cos it’s got 5 stars. Which is nice.
Beastfilms now has a new High Definition camera (a Canon HV20 to be precise)…
As well as being HD, this camera is also much more stable than the last one due to the optical stabilization (which is much better than digital stabilization) and is also also much better at focusing and low light conditions.
Here’s a quick screenshot comparison of some of the footage from the new camera with some footage from all the other cameras we’ve ever used – you can see how BIG the image is in comparison (clicky to view actual size)
We might even put some test footage up if we get round to it.
Spoiler warning! – If you haven’t yet seen the film then watch it before you watch the outtakes (otherwise Mike’s script messups or Ben’s falling-overs might reveal the whole plot, and you wouldn’t want that happening now would you?)
